My Craig's List Dining Room Table Revamp

My Craig's List Dining Room Table Revamp

I am currently redesigning my dining room and I refuse to spend the money on a brand new dining table set. Currently, I have a dark brown square counter-height dining table. It is 8 years old and takes up too much space. The table is in great condition but I am sooooo ready for something new. I love the type of rustic furniture that Pottery Barn sells, BUT I don't have that Pottery Barn type of money. So I decided to find an old dining set an refurbish it to fit my style. Here are a few pics of the dark brown square counter-height dining table and chairs that I have had since FOREVER: Old dining table old dining table - 2 I knew for certain that I wanted to change from a square table to a round table. In this particular space a round table would allow me to have more room. After over a month of searching the local thrift stores and trolling the internet for used tables, I finally came across the perfect wood pedestal table on Craig's List for $60! I was super excited because 60 bucks was a great deal and it also came with 4 chairs. Even though the table was just what I wanted, unfortunately the chairs were not ideal. But just the table alone was worth the $60 so I got it anyway. I can use the chairs for another project. After that, everything seemed to just fall into place because that next weekend I found 5 chairs at the thrift store for a total of $18. Those chairs were perfect for my new dining table. Before I begin showing the before and after pics of my dining set, I want you to see a pic of my inspiration table from Pottery Barn. The table alone costs $1499 and it only cost me under $100 to purchase & refurbish my dining room table and chairs. Wow...what a savings right????? :) (BTW, I actually sold my old table set for $175, so technically I am up by over $75 for this little refurbishing investment!) #WINNING [caption id="attachment_1240" align="alignnone" width="700"]PotteryBarn table - 1499 SUMNER EXTENDING PEDESTAL DINING TABLE -

To get that rustic look that I wanted, I used Minwax's "Driftwood" wood stain. I really hate that shiny finish on most furniture pieces and if I wanted to achieve that natural rustic look, then I could not use a finish with a gloss to it. I chose to use Minwax's Wipe-On Poly in Satin finish. I love this product because it gives a natural hand-rubbed look to the finish product. chairs before-1 after1 AFTER: chair after -3 chair after chair after -1 after2 after3 feature-blog porfolio-feature What do you think about my DIY furniture project? Does it compare to my Pottery Barn Inspiration table in the pic above?Google

Thanks :)
Yes, the pedestal table came with a leaf. I didn’t use it in the dining space because it would have taken up too much room.

Beautiful job! You have a great eye! You found some great deals … solid wood pedestal tables are beautiful strong workhorses. Love that they are so popular now. I owned one for years & sold it before moving back to Illinois last year. Did your table come with a leaf?
