DIY Kitchen Dinette Set MakeoverMay 15, 2013
HELLO! I just finished up a kitchen renovation and one of the items on the "To-Do" List was to give the existing kitchen dinette a face-lift so that it went with the kitchen's new color palette. Purchasing a new dining table was not in the budget, so I had to make this work somehow. The dinette set chairs are black iron with upholstered seats & greenish-brown stone accents on the back. Unfortunately, the fabric on the seats were in very bad shape and cleaning them was not an option. I decided to reupholster the seats with a burlap postage stamp print fabric that had red, black & brown accents. The pattern wasn't too busy for this small kitchen and it wasn't too plain either....it was perfect! I didn't want to paint the table, so in order to have a more cohesive design, I decided to go with a black finish for the cabinet hardware, light fixture and curtain rods to match the table. There were also greenish-brown accent stones on the front & back of the chair, which did not go well with the new fabric. I chose to paint the stones black. I used Rustoleum's "Textured" Black spray paint to cover the ugly stone color. The dinette set now looks great in the new space!
