IKEA HACK: DIY Zig-Zag Print Modular Credenza

IKEA HACK: DIY Zig-Zag Print Modular Credenza

PINTEREST - craft room redesign on astral riles 4 Hi all! First off, I would like to give a S/O to Apartment Therapy for featuring this DIY project on their website. I am loving all of the positive feedback! :) __________________________ I finally got around to finishing up my craft room. One of my most FAVORITE pieces in the room is the DIY modular credenza that I made using the Kallax shelving unit from IKEA. BEFORE - kallax bookcase 2 I love these shelving units / cubbies because they are super versatile. The only thing is that for this particular space, I preferred to have hidden storage. I decided to install both legs and doors to the individual shelving units to build a modular credenza. That way, i'd have the option to push all 3 pieces together for a big unit OR I could move them around the room and use them individually. MATERIALS USED: - 3 Kallax shelving units - qty: 12 Tapered oak furniture legs - qty: 12 straight top plate furniture hardware - Birch plywood - fiberboard - honey wood stain - arrow cabinet pulls - qty: 12 cabinet hinges The measurements for the shelving units are 30"x30". Since I purchased the plywood and the fiberboard from The Home Depot, I just asked them to cut the materials to the exact sizes for me. That service is a life-saver for real!!!! First, I installed the legs on the cubbies. furniture plate hardware tapered legs installing legs Next, I installed the fiberboard on the backside of the cubbies to enclose the unit. fiberboard 3 fiberboard fiberboard installation fiberboard installation 2 The next step was to stain the birch plywood doors. I wanted a funky kind of pattern, so I went with a random zig-zag design. I used FrogTape painter's tape  and wood stain to make the zig-zags on the plywood. plywood staining plywood zig zag close up - craft room redesign on astral riles After the plywood was stained and finished drying, I attached each piece to the shelving units using cabinet hinges. modular credenza ikea hack on astral riles Then, I drilled the holes to install the arrow cabinet pulls and the magnetic door catch. magnetic door catch arrow handle - craft room redesign on astral riles Overall, this was an easy project. It took me about a total of 3 days to complete, but that was only because I didn't have any help and I got frustrated a few times, which caused me to take EXTREMELY LONG BREAKS! lbvs Here is the final result of my solo DIY adventure... feature option 2 - craft room redesign on astral riles PINTEREST - craft room redesign on astral riles 4 feature option 1 - craft room redesign on astral riles pardon my fro prints - craft room redesign on astral riles legs - close up - craft room redesign on astral riles Soooooo...what do you think? i love them, they turned out great! The pulls are so cute. I love the funky look of your staining, and you are going to have so much storage now! I have a 2 × 4 cubby shelf from there (the name is escaping me now). I think it’s going to hold my tv at my next place. I might have to put some doors on it to class it up.
