Thank you kindly!!!) Say NO to vinyl mini blinds on astralriles.com  »»»»SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG«««« [mc4wp_form] Ok, I always seem to get thrown off track somehow...but back to the subject at hand...How / Where to get custom blinds for LESS money? Well, besides shopping for sales and/or deals, one way to save money on your custom blinds is to MEASURE YOURSELF and then ORDER ONLINE!!! Sure, it may take a bit more work on your end versus calling a store and having a designer come out and measure for you. But guess what? All of those extra conveniences that you get with those stores are rolled up into your sales price with those extra $$$ signs. Before I share my list of retailers, I would like to show you the correct way to measure blinds, should you feel so adventurous as to do so on your own. It's actually pretty easy. This is NOT random info. If you want to save a bit of money, you will definitely need to know this stuff. Actually, this is kind of a *bonus* because you get TWO blog posts for the price of one! :) STEP 1: Measure HEIGHT of the window For an "Inside Mount" - Measure from the very top inside of the window frame all the way down to the bottom of the frame. NOTE: No window is perfectly square, which means you MUST measure in different spots. Measure the height of the window on the far left, the middle and the far right. More than likely you will end up with at least 2 different measurements. And that's fine. To ensure you order the correct height for your blinds, you want to use the longest measurement. (Take for instance, if your measurement results for the height are: 78", 79 1/4" and 78 3/4"....then the height measurement you want to use for your order would be "79 1/4". Using the LONGEST measurement guarantees that your blinds will be long enough to extend all the way down to the bottom of the window frame...hence that "custom look" that you're going for. For an "Outside Mount" - This step is much easier because you are not working within the boundaries of a frame. You can have the length of the blinds be as long as you want. It is OK to have the length of the blinds be longer than the window frame. measuring the height of a window on astralriles.com STEP 1: Measure WIDTH of the window For an "Inside Mount" -  NOTE: No window is perfectly square, which means you MUST measure in 3 different spots. Measure the width from the top left to the top right. Measure the width from the middle left to the middle right. Finally, measure the width from the bottom left to the bottom right. More than likely you will end up with at least 2 different measurements. And that's fine. To ensure you order the correct width for your blinds, you want to use the shortest measurement. (Take for instance, if your measurement results for the width are: 56 3/4", 56 1/4" and 57"....then the width measurement you want to use for your order would be 56 1/4". Using the SHORTEST width measurement guarantees that your blinds will be the proper size to fit snugly inside of the window frame...hence that "custom look" that you're going for. For an "Outside Mount" - This step is much easier because you are not working within the boundaries of a frame. You can have the width of the blinds be as wide as you want. It is OK to have the width of the blinds be larger than the window frame. how to measure the width of a window on astralriles.com These may seem like unnecessary steps to some of you, but what you have to realize is that when placing a "Custom" order anywhere...CUSTOM = NONRETURNABLE / NO REFUNDS / NO EXCHANGES! That item was especially made for you according to the measurements that you provided, so the retailer is not going to remake the item for you. Considering this, you have to make sure to always "Measure twice and cut once." At the end of the day, if you make a mistake with your measurements, it won't matter how much money you saved on the purchase...because you won't be able to use the blinds if they don't fit! :( If you have multiple windows that APPEAR to be the same size...please believe that they are NOT the same. It would be an EPIC FAIL if you just "assumed" that they would all have the exact same measurements. Now that I have showed you the proper way to measure for your blinds...Here are my top 3 favorites places to purchase blinds for reasonable prices.

1. THE HOME DEPOT

The Home Depot offers the following *READY MADE* Cut-To-Order Window Treatment Options: - Faux Wood Blinds - Cellular Shades - Mini Blinds These are products that the retail stores already have in-stock on the shelves and available for immediate purchase. No shipping...No waiting!  What most people don't realize is that in addition to the store's Custom Window Treatment department, there is another less expensive alternative to ordering your blinds as "Custom". If you take the proper measurements of your windows you have the option to purchase either of those 3 products listed above and request to have a sales associate cut the blinds for you. All you have to do is provide them with your "accurate" measurements and they will pull the items from the shelf and cut them. Again, keep in mind that once the blinds are cut for you...they are marked with a sticker as "non-returnable". On several occasions, I have had these ready made blinds cut to order at The Home Depot and it cost me about 40% less than what I would've paid if I had ordered the blinds through the store's Custom Window Treatment department.
