Budget DIY Metal Coffee Table Makeover Using Rustoleum Spray Paint

gold-painted-coffee-table-2-on-astralriles.com_ Who doesn't love decorating on a budget? I know I do!!!! If you want to spruce up your living room and/or give it a new look, you don't have to go out and buy brand new expensive furniture. The biggest and most inexpensive change that you can make to a space that gives the most impact is changing the paint color on the walls. But, lets be honest, not everybody likes to paint. And sometimes even I don't  feel like painting walls. When you get the urge to give your space an update, you can simply swap out the decor accessories, accent pillows, art work, etc. Those small things make a big difference. You can even go as far as changing an accent chair, end tables or coffee table. This little switch-a-roo can also be inexpensive and relatively easy to do...if you feel like doing a tad bit of work. Here's an example of how easy it is to switch out a piece of furniture. I changed the coffee table in this living room and by doing so, it gave the space a slightly different look. BEFORE there was a rustic look Driftwood finish wood coffee table: before living rm »»»»SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG«««« [mc4wp_form] I found a metal & glass coffee table at the thrift store for $15. The table was sturdy and in pretty good condition. The finish wasn't so great though. The table was brass-plated and the finish was rusted, stained and fading in some areas and chipped in other spots. The best thing to do was to spray paint the table. All I needed was 1 can of Rustoleum's Flat White Primer and 1 can of Rustoleum Gold Metallic Spray Paint to spruce this baby up. BEFORE - brass plated coffee table After giving the coffee table a good cleaning, I began the primer spray paint application: Primer application Also, for the glass top, I decided to try out a new product to make the glass look like a mirror. I used Rustoleum's Mirror Effect Specialty Spray Paint. I really liked the results of this product. Please note that you have to make sure to read the directions prior to use. I almost didn't read the can...I don't like reading instructions. LOL. The spray paint needs to be applied to the underside of the glass ONLY! Also, once applied, the mirrored finish can be easily rubbed  off, so it might be a good idea to apply a top coat of a Matte Clear Coat for a protective finish. rustoleum mirror effect spary paint 2 on astralriles.com rustoleum mirror effect spary paint on astralriles.com After the 2 coats of the gold spray paint, I left the table dry for about an hour then I moved it from outside and into the house. I put the DIY mirrored glass on top and added a new centerpiece to the table for a nice accent. This table now has the versatility to be dressed down in a casual setting OR dressed up in a more upscale space. The good thing about the gold color is that it is neutral, so it can even be moved around the house to different areas. Cost for this budget makeover: - Coffee Table: $15 - Primer: $3.76 - Gold Spray Paint (2 cans): $8.50 - Mirror Effect Spray Paint: $8.47 TOTAL COST for this coffee table makeover = $35.73 Now that ain't too bad for a piece of furniture that now looks brand new. One thing I will say is that Rustoleum Mirror Effect spray paint is RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE!!!! The can is even smaller that the normal spray paint cans. What the heck is really going on with that???? It comes in a tiny little 6 oz can and has the nerve to be priced a almost 9 bucks! I know one thing. I will not be buying this product on the regular...I ain't trying to pay those prices. It's highway robbery, especially if you are working on a big project and you have to buy multiple cans. No way! But, I digress... So what do you think? Is $35 considered a "budget" or "inexpensive" to you? Would you have taken another route to give this thrift store coffee table a new look on a budget? If so, please tell me what you would have done. I am curious to hear all of your ideas. »»»»SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG«««« [mc4wp_form] S/N: if you're in the mood to purchase some one-of-akind handmade home decor...here is a link to my Etsy Shop:

LOL! Hello! I found your blog via Better After and love it! :D Too funny about the rant on the mirror spray paint. I laugh because I would have the same rant. ;) The table looks great, though.

Great blog and it is nice to meet another thrift store shopper and lover of sci-fi (not SyFy)! lol
